As a four year member of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Kent State Chapter, I have been presented with various cutting edge opportunities to gain valuable hands-on learning experiences. With over 300 university chapters nationwide, PRSSA is a student organization interested in public relations and communications advocating rigorous academic standards for public relations education, the highest ethical principles and diversity in the profession.

One opportunity I am exceptionally proud of and grateful to have received is the Bateman Case Study Competition, PRSSA’s premier national case study competition for public relations students giving them the opportunity to apply classroom education and internship experiences to create and implement a full public relations campaign.

I was selected by my School of Journalism and Mass Communication professors to take part and excel in this case study for the client The Campaign to Change Direction. The goal of this campaign was to change the language and culture of mental health. From primary and secondary research, my team of five identified college-aged African American individuals as our target audience.

In completion of our six month case study AreYouOkay? #ItIsOkToAsk, my team, Bateman Blue, met and exceeded each of our objectives and received an Honorable Mention on behalf of PRSA.

In light of this campaign, I am grateful to have been provided the opportunity to gain hands-on experience that allowed me to further learn about the public relations profession, as well as mental health awareness. With this case study, I feel confident in taking on the roles of a public relations professional in any industry.
