Recreational Sports and Wellness beat reporter

During the 2016 fall semester, I served as a Recreational Sports and Wellness beat reporter covering all Kent State University and Kent community stories regarding health, wellness and recreational sports.

I published 14 high-profile stories on strict deadline, with multiple front page stories. Within this role, I was able to demonstrate my AP Style writing and interviewing capabilities, along with using my creative eye to find impact stories.

My proudest article was the front-page profile story, Finding Power in Strength, about a Kent State student who once suffered from an eating disorder and is now a full-time body builder. Not only was her story empowering, but it was an opportunity to highlight a major mental health issue among young adults. I was happy to shine light on the illness all while sharing encouragement to those who may be suffering from an eating disorder.

During my time as a reporter, profile-stories were my forte due to my passion for storytelling that is both powerful and informational.
